Emergency Management Specialist

We're looking for a HM Principal Inspector of Railways: Emergency Management Specialist to join our London office. At ORR we have adopted hybrid working and are currently expected to work from a workplace location for a minimum of two days per week or 40%.

​​Railway Safety Directorate ensures duty-holders in the railway industry manage health and safety risks effectively and comply with their statutory duties​ 

​​​CTSA & IGC work encompasses Great Britain’s only high-speed railway, including High Speed 1 route (including St Pancras station), the Channel Tunnel, the tunnel shuttle, Eurostar train services & freight operators which run through the Channel Tunnel.  ​​ 

​​​​The ORR Channel Tunnel team plays a critical role in supporting the binational British and French Channel Tunnel Safety Authority (CTSA) and Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) to ensure the ongoing safety of the Channel Tunnel fixed link. ​We are seeking a highly experienced emergency planning professional to join our specialist Channel Tunnel team. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to contribute to the safety of one of Britain's most vital transport connections with Europe. The successful candidate will provide expert advice to the CTSA on emergency management issues, including fire and rescue operations.  

​In this role, you will lead inspections of Channel Tunnel operators' emergency preparedness and response arrangements and offer wider support to ORR on emergency planning across GB rail operations. You will also represent the UK as part of the CTSA delegation.  

​The postholder will lead a small, multi-disciplinary team, including CTSA inspectors from ORR and the emergency services, and work closely with French counterparts to ensure coordinated, effective regulation of Channel Tunnel operations.​​​
